Sister Study - Breast Cancer

Dear Friends,  I am a member of the Sister Study.  It takes a little effort but is so important in the ongoing fight against breast cancer.  My sister is a breast cancer survivor.  Hence, I became involved in this study. Also, I have lost several friends to breast cancer. I have another dear friend who is in the fight of her life with a little known breast cancer, Inflammatory Breast Carcinoma.   My mother had two bouts of breast cancer and I believe the last metastized to her bones and ultimately killed her.  We do what we can to further each other's well being.  If you are not interested or not eligible (see below).  Please forward this email to friends who might wish to particpate or know of someone who would.  Please help the Sister Study reach their goal.

WE NEED YOU NOW MORE THAN EVER to help us recruit women just like you!  The Sister Study needs a total of 50,000 women by the end of 2007.  We currently have 33,000 women enrolled in the study which means we need to recruit 17,000 more women by the end of this year.  Our most successful method of recruitment is through word of mouth, so this is where you can play a pivotal role today. 

 

Through your personal participation in the Sister Study, you are making a tremendous contribution to breast cancer research.  But we have another important request.  Please forward this email to other women, friends and family members who may be interested.  Or give them a call or a brochure about the study (call 1-877-474-7837 for brochures).  If each current participant in the Sister Study helps us recruit one other woman this year, we will reach our goal and complete our recruitment phase on time!  Remember, breast cancer affects women from every walk of life, so we need women of all backgrounds, occupations, and ethnic groups to join.

Ø      Your sister (living, deceased), related to you by blood, had breast cancer

Ø      You are between 35 and 74 years old

Ø      You have never had breast cancer yourself

Inflammatory Breast Cancer

 This is the type of breast cancer my friend has.  I see a little better but DO NOT ACCEPT that it was ok or understandable that the doctor blew this diagnosis for 8 months.  The bad news is that only 40% of  people (not just women or adults) survive more than five years with this monster.  The good news is that because it is so often missed,  stage 4 is not unusual. 

 

Please check this out.  I have known three women who have died of breast cancer because their doctors reassured them to wait and see what develops.  For them lethal cancer developed.  My sister's doctor told her the same thing and she was 62 when she first felt a little bump a month after a clear mammogram. Her doctor told her to take vitamin E and come back in a month or two.  I went absolutely fucking ape shit when I heard that.  I totally lost it.  She went to another doctor and within a month was in full blown chemotherapy followed by a full 8 weeks of radiation.  She is doing well, cancer free so far and living a full life.  She had an invasive ductal carcinoma fully loaded and ready to kill.

Don't wait and don't take no for answer.  You know your own body.
