Why do you live where you live?
Submitted by memtony.
I live where I live on a a farm because of, YEP you guessed it HORSES!!! I stayed in the area where I was born and grew up because unlike other teachers, moving from one job to another was never a good idea. I had tenure and every place I thought about moving to was overloaded with teachers and letting many go. I also bought a horse when I started working and moving them is not that easy. Selling him and getting another later on was not an option. They quickly become family members.
Have you ever had a dream that came true?
Submitted by rescout.
Do you mean a dream I had while asleep? In a way - When I was in my early 30's I used to have a recurring night mare that I called the "DeadMommyDream". I would have a dream that my mother was being killed, dieing in an accident, or just being gone in some undefineable horrific way. I would be trying to reach her, screaming my lungs out. I would waken to a sore throat, muscles in knots and sweating. I stopped the dreams by instructing myself to wake up when they got too bad. Also in my DMD's I would, in mid-dream, tell myself to wake up that this was too horrible to be true and to check it out. I would then wake up, rationalize the dream and go back to sleep.
Mom did die on July 19th 2005 at 94 years old. She was diagnosed with bone cancer and I was able to have her here with me and take care of her with Hospice's help til she passed away in peace. Did she die, yes. LIke my dreams, no.
I had a "DeadSonDream" last week. I dreamt that I got a call that he had been killed in Iraq. Before going hysterical, my conscious mind took over and said, "Jeff is in Flint, not Iraq." Now it is true that there is some question as to which place is more dangerous Flint, MI or Iraq. (no joke). If I dream that I get a call that he was killed in Flint, then I will freak out. The USA has some very dangerous places. This is in no way disrespect towards our soldiers in Iraq. They are amazing people doing a job they must do. I pray for them everyday. God love and protect them.
Now if we are talking about life dreams, yep, you betcha it came true. I always wanted to live on a farm (medium sized-city girl here) and have animals and mostly horses. I am living my dream. We have 2 horses, 4 dogs, 6 cats, plenty of chickens that lay brown and blue eggs. Up until a couple of weeks ago, we had a really neat pygmy goat. I looked out of our kitchen window this evening and saw ten deer grazing in the field. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. That dream I am living and am oh so grateful for.

What's the last compliment you gave and/or received?
Submitted by MalieKai.
This morning. I'm 24 hours away from my last shower, been out in the barn working etc and I'm noticing a slight aroma, as in don't lift your arms or breathe too deeply. I said to my husband, "Man, do I stink! I'm gonna hit the showers!" He replied, "No, You never stink." I replied with something like, liar, liar pants on fire. But, I do appreciate the lie. It may not be much, but it does say something about our relationship after 22 years together:D
When skimming a magazine (or book or newspaper) do you flip through the pages from front to back or back to front?
Submitted by enSue.
I wonder what the psychological take is on this. I always start at the last page and work forward. Once in a great while I will open a magazine or paper in the middle, work toward the front and then toward the last page. Really goofy for and English reader and speaker.
What, to you, is the first sign of spring? Have you seen it yet?
Submitted by Spy.
Yes, the first sign of spring around here is the aroma of skunk :D When they come out of hibernation, they start playing chicken with cars and trucks. They lose, often. Oh, yes spring is in the air - LOL I have also seen 2 robins and my horses are shedding as though someone ripped open a feather pillow. Hair is everywhere!
What's one family recipe that you wish you knew how to cook?
Well, really I have two recipes I wish I could make. My mother used to make a tuna noodle casserole with bread crumbs and sliced hard boiled eggs on top. There were green peas in it, too. Her recipe was really creamy. I have never been able to duplicate it and she never wrote it down. The other is too be able to make a decent pie crust. Mom could make pies that were so could they would make you weep. No one ever left her crusts on a plate, ever. She just had the touch. Mine come out like concrete. Can't do pastry at all, although two of my three brothers could bake pies. Weird.
How do you handle phone calls from telemarketers?
99% percent of the time I am polite because these folks are trying to make a living, too. Some of my students do this work. I say, NO, thank you. We are not interested." Follow that with the most important words of all, "Take me off your calling list!" Before there was a do not call list, I cut these annoying calls down to practically nothing with that order.
Which household chores do you most/least enjoy?
Submitted by falcon.kmc.I can't think of any household job/chore that I enjoy. I find laundry the least onerous, but for me housecleaning is a matter of survival. I am getting old enough to not care what people think of my messy house. We are all incredibly healthy and have less stress than most. My Aunt Mimi used to have a saying on her wall in the back hall of her old huge victorian house: "This house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy". And to Aunt Mimi, I say Amen. That is my motto also.
NOw I will work by butt off cleaning the barn and swamping out the horse trailer and conditioning tack or picking up dog poo out of the kennel. Inside the house - eh, I've got more fun things to do.
